Dear Stuart Hill/Sovereign Nation of Shetland,
Freedom Of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
Thank you for your email dated 6 March 2025 requesting information held by
Registers of Scotland (RoS). Your request has been considered under the Freedom
of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA).
You asked, 'does the title of Cadastral Unit OAZ2133 derive originally from a Crown
grant?'
Response to your request
Under section 14(1) of FOISA a public authority is not required to comply with a
request for information if the request is vexatious. We consider your request to be
vexatious because it does not have a serious purpose or value.
The subject of your request has been definitively settled and the relevant
information provided to you. There is no information that could be provided which
would alter this situation. There can therefore be no serious purpose or value in
continuing to pursue it.
As already outlined to you in our response CW-2025-062, it is possible to find land
and property information for registered titles by searching the Land Register.
Copies of title sheets are available to purchase at the cost of £3 + VAT. This
information is exempt under section 25(1) of FOISA as we do not have to give you
information which is already reasonably accessible to you.
Further guidance on vexatious requests can be found on the Scottish Information
Commissioner's website at www.foi.scot/briefings-and-guidance.

Despite what they say, there is no information on the RoS site telling whether a particular title derives from a Crown grant - the very definition of the feudal titles they register.
Registers of Scotland know very well that feudal titles can only emanate from a grant by the Crown. They also know that there are no feudal titles in Shetland because the Crown has never owned Shetland to be able to grant such titles. It's terribly embarassing for them. Their only resort is to call the request 'vexatious'.
